Pandora, the first woman to be created according to Greek Mythology, was sent as a trap to man kind. Zeus, being tricked by man, as punishment took away fire from man. They could never become warm or cook their meat. Prometheus, a man, went and retrieved fire from a god on the earth. Zeus infuriated, created Pandora as a gift for Prometheus's brother. Pandora was beautiful and charming, so Epimetheus did not heed his brothers warning and married her. Zeus, on their wedding day presented them with a box. The box was never to be opened. Pandora wondered why she could never open the box. One day being left by herself, she decided to open the box. She opened the odious box and out came hatred, despair, sorrow, and all evils. The cause of all the horror of the world was Pandora's curiosity of the inside of the her box.

~ King Midas ~

You think you are so cunning, but I see right through your plan.
Dreadful: Origin: Unknown , Definition: awful: causing fear or dread or terror;
Stop acting so dreadful, and perhaps you will get your way.
The story of Kind Midas and his "golden touch," is one that is well-known. The king who wanted everything to be gold. One day, King Midas, came upon an old man sleeping underneath of a tree. Recognizing the old man to be a servant of the wine god, Dionysus, Midas takes the old man in and treats him like royalty. So grateful was Dionysus, for the treatment his old servant received, Dionysus grants Midas one wish. Midas wishes for everything that he touches, to be turned to gold. Dionysus grants the wish. Everything Midas touched from then on turned into gold including his children, animals, servants, and so on. King Midas returns to Dionysus pleading for him to undo it, Dionysus takes pity on the greedy man, and tells him to take water from the river Pactolus. He does this and washes away all of the gold from everything. He lost almost everything because of his greed and desire for gold.

Narcissism: Origin- Greek mythology, Definition- Excessive love or admiration of oneself.
Stop being such a narcissist; you only think of yourself.
Echo: Origin- Nymph in a greek myth, Definition- a reply that repeats what has just been said
Echoing everything I say is very annoying!
Greek tales and myths have been widely spread, written, and talked about for many centuries. The tale of Narcissus and Echo, is a tale of an undying love and heartbreak. Echo, a nymph, falls in love with a self obsessed young man. She attempts to speak to him, and show him her love. Echo can only echo what he says, and Narcissus pushes her away. Narcissus continues to push other lovers away. Narcissus is punished by a goddess, who hears the pleas of past loves. He is punished by being forever in love with himself. Since he can never have himself, Narcissus, is tormented for the rest of his life.

The greatest thing I have ever....
done...is jump out a window with Sarah G. It was a cold, dark, stormy night when we did the deed. Sarah and I sat in the darkness fearing for our lives. People were pounding, beating the door. Sarah whispered, "We have to get away. I have an idea." I sat near the wall, just watching her, to see what she would do. She crawled across the floor to the base of the window. Slowly she stood up next to the wall. I studied her across the room as she pulled the screen up.
She set the screen on the floor and beckoned to me, as she slid the window slowly open. I ran across the room to her, just as she was jumping. "Hurry up." she hissed. I crawled out the window to join her, and finally we were free! Or at least we thought so. Sirens rang out and we heard people yelling at us. We looked up to see the police, their faces bright red with anger. I looked up at Sarah with complete dread. We were done for...

Summary:

Geisha life is nothing without having a proper "Danna" to take of you. The fight over which "Danna" Sayuri will choose is a long drawn out battle. Life(and the book) end well when Sayuri gets the man of her dreams.
Review:
I became a lot more interested in learning about Japanese culture after finishing this book. It made me curious to find out what happens to the older Geishas. This book, though, it starts on a slightly sad note, ends happily for Sayuri. She struggles through a lot, and makes you feel appreciative of the great life we, women lead in America. She has endurance through it all and becomes a strong, successful woman.

Hatsumomo, her rival in the Geisha home, goes to great lengths to destroy Chiyo-chan's reputation and her future career. How will it all end?
Review:
This book draws you in from the moment Chiyo-chan meets her destiny, Mr. Tanaka. The author compels the reader to continue reading to find out her fate. "Memoirs of a Geisha," reveals not only the life of a Geisha but the process it takes to become one. I felt that I had learned a lot more about the Japanese culture. You will never be bored while reading this book, thats one thing I can ensure.
